Problem

Research proves that using pictures helps children and adults remember what medicines to take, what they are for, and how to take them. PictureRx challenged me to create a system that would simplify the process of remembering when to take medications.

Solution

To meet this challenge I worked with a team at Medium to create an identity that communicated the values that inspired PictureRx–clarity and simplicity. Along with a new identity, an online application was created that allowed patients to manage their medications. Patients were given the ability to view details for each medication they were taking including who the prescribing doctor was, who dispensed the medication, and instructions about when and how to take the medication. Patients also had the ability to print this information in a format that created a card that could be easily folded and placed in their wallets for emergencies.

Results

PictureRx is currently one of the few medication aids that has been tested in clinical research studies. 4 out of 5 patients said PictureRx helped them keep up with their medicines. PictureRx has received attention from the Wall Street Journal, was nominated for a Kruesi Spirit of Innovation award in 2009, and was ranked among the top 50 finalists in the American Express Members Project, in a field of over 8,000 entries.
